Better filter for "Filter by product"

We would love to have the possibility to categorize products in “Filter by product” in Product Ideas and Product Updates. Currently the list of products displays alphabetically, for us that means platform products, applications, and beta features display messy pending on the product/feature brand name. In our use case we’d like to categorize the products displaying in “Filter by product” in categories, with the most important products on top, such as Platform, Applications, and Beta, as an example. Would that be possible to accommodate for?

Hi @Anitahg!

I’d like to second this idea, as we have a similar use case. I would prefer to have this as a native feature on Insided for the product updates, because I know this idea was added to the Insided road map:

So in the meantime, I managed to set up something in a custom HTML widget that might serve as some inspiration for what these could turn into. It works for now, but the downfall of this method is we have to add to the code each time we might need to add a new product area. Or, if the name of a product area changes at all, that’s another change we need to make to the code.

See it in our community here: https://community.c2cglobal.com/product-updates

I also doubt my current solution would allow for the category-based subscriptions that are on the Insided road map, which is why I would prefer this type of filtering customization to be a native feature.

Thanks for sharing your workaround @alex.maks! We’ll give that a try for now @Marion Frecaut any thoughts on my above request? We have one main product in our company that should be at the front of every communication piece we do, but currently it displays way down in the lists in the ideation and product updates module just because the only way of sorting the products here is alphabetical.

Thank you, @Anitahg, for submitting this idea, and @alex.maks, for the sharing your workaround as inspiration! If I understand correctly the request, you would like to be able to 1) organise product areas in different ‘categories’, implying a 2-levels structure, and 2) to be able to order the list product areas.
We have open a similar idea and I would like to merge this one into:

Let me know what you think!

@Cristina yes, that’s the idea! Similar to how things are organized in the community categories or knowledge base. However, I don’t want to lose the ability to tag the product updates in multiple areas - that’s the main reason we use product updates for our articles in favor of the knowledge base.

I will add this comment to the other idea you linked to. I think they can be merged.
