Allow Timeline Entries to match with CTAs from Other Companies

The new update to Timeline allowing an entry to be logged to multiple CTAs and/or companies/relationships is great.

One thing that is lacking is the ability to map a Timeline entry for a CTA for Company A AND Company B.

You can add an entry multiple companies yes, but it goes to the general timeline.

You can add an entry to multiple CTAs, but ONLY if they are associated with the same Company ID you’re creating the ‘original’ Timeline Entry on.

I tried creating a Timeline entry for Company A and associating it with Company B, then going to the Timeline for Company B and adding a CTA for Company B, but I still only had the option to link it to a CTA for Company A.

Forget going to the generic timeline (for all activity) as you need to select a Company or relationship first before you can add associated records.

This would be useful if you carry out an activity (such as a call or update) that was held for a Parent Company, and you want to map it to a child company record as well, or even just multiple child companies. That’s just one example.

@bradley We will look into this requirement. Will there be any other scenario where you would want to associate CTA from one company to another except when they have a Parent-child relationship?

Sure, here are some use cases off the top of my head:

  • You have a webinar or training that you do for different companies and you have a CTA for this but you are able to do them in batches (so, all in one call) - you hold a webinar for multiple companies and want to create one timeline entry for all of them.
  • You have a risk that impacts multiple customers so more than one have an open risk CTA and you want to make one timeline entry for an update
  • You have a blast email that goes out to multiple companies, but since Journey Orchestrator can’t log to Timeline, you copy your email on it and want to create one Timeline entry and link it to those accounts (because it’s part of some CTA, maybe a common objective)

It isn’t about linking CTAs together, it’s about a 1:Many, Timeline:CTA relationship.

@soumitrasahu I don’t know if this would be a separate request, but I would imagine that in enabling this request, it would be possible to associate a CTA Timeline Activity at company A to the global timeline for company B, which is a request/use case we have also come across.

Extending this out to allow Associated Records to cross the Company/Relationship level to allow a Company Timeline Activity to be related/associated to a Relationship CTA.  This is critical for us as our email to timeline use (via gainsight assist) logs emails at the Company level and our CTAs are primarily at the Relationship level.  We need a way for our users to be able to associate the email with the cta.
