Horizon Dashboard - Configuration/UI

Related products:CS Reports

The new Horizon experience is awesome when creating a brand new dashboard, however, when attempting to modify existing dashboards due to process iteration, the experience becomes somewhat frustrating due to the adaptive interface.

Would any of the following be possible?

  • “Freeze” the location of reports as the dashboard is configured
  • Return the classic UI ability to switch the location of 2 reports cleanly
  • Drop widgets/reports into available space instead of at the bottom of the dashboard
  • Toggle the adaptive UI vs freezing

We have several dashboards with 10+ reports, and the adaptive interface shuffling the location of most/all reports when trying to drag & drop adds significant time & effort to replace the layout before saving.  Smaller dashboards are easier to work with - but the UI seems to be designed more for initial build than continuous improvement & iteration.

+1, love the new look and feel but adding and rearranging reports in an existing dashboard is a pain.

Easily, my #1 pain point when Dashboard building is the behavior of Reports to “float” to the top-most available space on the Dashboard. As I’m building, I want the ability to place a Report exactly where I want it, like a pegboard. Today’s behavior is more like an upside-down game of Connect 4, where you’ve got to strategize how and where to add Reports because they’re all headed toward the top-most available space

IMHO, I’ve spent non-valuable time simply trying to get the Reports where I want them. Big “Admin Quality of Life” item here for me.

@anirbandutta can we get some eyes on this? I’m attempting to update a number of dashboards, and the UX is like a weird mind-game puzzle from an episode of Black Mirror.

+1 on this. Recent efforts to update our dashboards have been challenging. For example, in a dash where 3 widgets span across the top of the dash, we wanted to shrink those to add an additional widget on the same row. Attempts to add the new widget (after initially dropping it on to the dash - which showed up at the very bottom) ended up re-arranging all of the tiles/widgets underneath the top row.

I also couldn’t move the right most widget further right to make room for the new one - it kept snapping back to the original position. So I put the new widget on the far right thinking I could swap it’s position once it’s on the same row. Not as easy as you would think …

+1000!
More than once I had to start from scratch because it took less time doing that than trying to add new widgets and rearrange them 😕

Thank you for that Romi… I’ve merged the ideas and set the status accordingly.

Prateek should get back to this when he’s back from his PTO.
