Ability to edit an idea

Related products: CC Ideation

Would be helpful to have a way for users to edit the title and/or content of an idea once posted. In my case I goofed up here with the title (making it badges) and couldn’t update. Even if there was a way for me to close off the idea or delete it and create a new one would work too.

Thanks for sharing this @Scott Baldwin. Indeed we’d like to make it possible for end users to at least edit the content of an idea, as this is available with other user-generated content types (questions, conversations, replies).

Editing the title is something we don’t have available for any of the content types but I can also see the logic behind this → probably we’d apply the same rule we do for editing content, where registered users not being able to edit the title after 90 minutes.

Deleting ideas as an end user is an interesting one. If end users gained editing capabilities, would you really want them to also be able to delete ideas? Or is this an alternative to solve the problem of ‘I posted the wrong content’?

Updated idea status NewOpen

In this case editing would address the deletion use case for sure.

Voted! I agree that editing would be sufficient here (no deleting necessary)

However, the ability to delete your own reaction in an idea would be great. Just now, I accidentally posted a reaction in the wrong idea. I had to ask for help to delete it. Would be great if I could do this myself.

Any news about this one @Cristina ?

Hi @Suvi Lehtovaara, thank you for the follow-up! Unfortunately, no news around the edit option on ideas, though we are striving to implement it before the end of the year. 🤞

Hi @Cristina any update on this? Our CPO has been asking. Thank you!

Hi @Chris Hackett! Still no update on this, I’m afraid. It’s been challenging to find capacity in our planning to include this improvement, but I am keeping it top of mind. Really appreciate and am grateful for all your patience on this one!

Any updates on this @Cristina ? 😊

Any updates on this? 😊

Hi @Suvi Lehtovaara 😊 Taking over from Cristina while she’s on maternity leave, nice to meet you! The team will pick up this item when we will do a series of ideation improvements - scheduled for later this year. But if this is something we can pick up before we will as it remains high within our priorities. I will keep this thread posted 🙏

Hi @Manon thank you for the update! This sounds promising.

@Manon thanks for your update earlier this year 😊

Do you know whether this will be picked up this year? 😊

Hi @Suvi Lehtovaara ! Thank you for your message and for your patience on this one. So right now users who submit an idea can edit the content of the idea once published. Please let know if you were able to do so 🙂 However it is not possible to edit the title yet. Due to capacity and other priorities we didn’t have the opportunity to work on that yet, but it’s still planned for later this year, probably Q1/Q2 next year. I hope that gives you a bit more clarity! :)

Hi there, bumping in on this one since we just released our own Ideation platform for Odido users. It still doesn't seem possible to edit an existing idea once published - except for moderators (obviously) → Can this be fixed shortly? Thanks in advance!

Hi @Manon,

I can confirm what @JasonTMT says: it is still not possible for regular users to edit the content of their ideas. Since you mentioned this should be the case, is this something you are currently working on?

@Manon,

Can you please respond to @JasonTMT and my reactions? Despite what you said, this still does not work. This can sometimes be really frustrating for our end users.

Hi everyone! Exciting news!! Authors can now edit their Ideas alongside replies on Ideas and Product Updates within 1-hour of creation.
