Ability to merge 2 accounts into 1 from Control

@Julian I’d mentioned this to you I believe before but reading into other existing community topics I feel this warrants gathering upvotes from other users to evaluate the need.

There are multiple use cases for such a feature:

  1. Authentication methods conflict resulting in a same person having 2 accounts, example:

(Which also happens to be a question around merging accounts).

  2. A community manager/ staff at community company leaving resulting in lost mentions and need to explain the situation to members example:

In both cases merging/ consolidating the activity of both users into one single account makes more sense then other options, enabling case 1 users not to loose any activity/ p[points/ contacts/ subscriptions etc and in case 2 all community members have consistency and continuity on the platform and the current community manager to have no loss of information or explanations to make…

Finally perhaps less common but an interesting case for B2B companies:

  1. A person changes company and their SSO login tied to our App which requires the use of their professional email address, is therefore no longer valid and we need to be able to manually fix this as they’ve created a new account for themselves. We want our community to act as a career long partner and not being able to honour this would be disappointing!

This would be EXTREMELY valuable for our organization to have a way to merge profiles. People get new Auth0s which create them new profiles or people change organizations and want to keep their old profile they have contributed toward for years.
This would be huge and other platform providers have a way to accomplish this.

Chiming in here as well. We just this week had another instance where this would be helpful. This exact thing again:

  1. A person changes company and their SSO login tied to our App which requires the use of their professional email address, is therefore no longer valid and we need to be able to manually fix this as they’ve created a new account for themselves. We want our community to act as a career long partner and not being able to honour this would be disappointing!

Thank you!

@deepan I fully respect Gainsight’s ownership over its own roadmap and that you can’t do everything customers request. However, can you share what you mean by “we have not heard much feedback?” It seems to me that the discussion on this post keeps popping up, and has picked up a lot over the last year, with people saying this would be a major improvement. At one point early on, a Gainsight team member even chimed in to affirm the importance of the use case.

I’m sure others on this thread would be happy to share more feedback if additional specific information would be helpful for Gainsight. Are there questions the team has that we can respond to?

Thanks for the update either way!

Yes!

Is it possible to merge via API in the meantime?

@deepan this is functionality that needs to be on your platform. Your competitors (Higher Logic/Vanilla) have this and have had has had this for 5 years. There has been a lot of feedback on this and upvotes. Taking a quick look, this is one of the most upvoted feature requests on the CC platform.

Why is this getting tabled?

Thanks for the continued engagement and for bring this up — we understand the importance of being able to merge accounts and the impact this gap is causing.

This is an area we will actively start evaluating, given the complexity around data integrity and identity management. At this moment, We are discussing internal regarding the technical feasibility . I will get back to you all for inputs on this thread while we complete our internal assessment.

I will come back with a clear update once we have more to share. Right now we are working on other big releases stay tuned to get more updates

Appreciate your patience.

When members change companies but want to stay active in our community there is no way for admins to merge or connect their accounts, which creates duplicate profiles and fragments their history.
This means users lose their past contributions, credibility, and engagement, while admins are left with inaccurate data and no way to maintain a unified view of the member.

It would be incredibly valuable to introduce an admin capability to merge or link accounts, transfer historical activity like posts and badges, and preserve a single, continuous profile across company changes. Communities are long-term ecosystems, but careers are not, and supporting this transition would significantly improve member experience, retention, and data integrity.

@deepan This is also my exact use case.
