When a user posts a question, he/she (or any moderator) can mark one of the answers in this topic as "Best answer" (or "Solution", depending on how the phrase is, well, phrased). What's not possible is to undo this action in the frontend.

The undo function is available for moderators in the control panel. If a user mistakenly marked an answer as "Best answer" (or a moderator marked a "Best answer" but the user doesn't agree), the only way to undo this is to ask a moderator to do it. This leads to more work than necessary.

We would like to see the undo function also be implemented in the frontend.

@daniel.boon I see your previous reply here that states you planned to “park” this idea, but I also see that it is Open now. Any chance this is being reconsidered? We just soft launched our community yesterday and have already received feedback from 2 individuals that they would like to have the ability to “undo” their best answer selection in situations like the one @bjoern_schulze described where they may have incorrectly marked a response.

Thank you!

Hey @adam.ballhaussen, thanks for sharing your feedback!

I’m not certain whether it was intentionally reopened or not (since one of the product team should have left a reply). I’m going to leave it open however, since it’s picked up some additional votes since last time.

Thanks @daniel.boon!

The following idea has been merged into this idea:

All the votes have been transferred into this idea.

Yes, please! I get emails to undo best answers regularly.

Follow up on this idea:

The amount of users who mark a solution by mistake hasn’t gotten smaller since this idea was posted. A usual reason we hear is: “I wanted to click on “Like”, but instead clicked on “Mark as solution” because the button is where I expected the “Like” button to be”.

In my opinion an easy way to minimize the erroneous clicks is to move the “Mark as solution” button behind the “Like” and “Quote” button.

Hi all! We are excited to announce that we have made this functionality available for authors. Authors can now un-mark best answer if they have done so by mistake.

@Sudhanshu are there plans to add this as a webhook event so we can have visibility into when this happens and by whom?

If not (or if not anytime soon), could you please provide the specific CSS class of this action so that we can can set up Google Analytics tracking of the events? (less ideal, as it won’t ca

This is a great improvement to the UX, but here are my use cases for the webhook or alternative ways to track:

  1. I have automated questions to close one week after they are marked answered.
    • I’d like to cancel this automation for those unmarked.
  2. Super users can also unmark any answer, just as they can mark any answer (my testing confirmed this)
    • I have a few dozen super users with this access; I want to monitor for misuse, as well as general visibility into how often they are using this feature (an extra perk of their super user status)
  3. I have multiple automations and some custom tracking using the question.Answered webhook.
    • Now that answers are more easily unmarked / marked again, I need to account for this in those processes.

Hi @DannyPancratz! Thanks for the reply and the insights. We will be adding a webhook for unanswered at most by January next year, considering the upcoming holidays. Please let me know if you need CSS class till then.

@Sudhanshu January should work fine. That’s great news!
