Ability to update activities via rules

There are multiple use cases where an admin would want to update activity data via rules and it would be very useful to have update activities as a rule action.

  1. Activities automatically logged via tools like Gong don’t input data into some of our critical activity fields, since the integration is limited to setting the default just on the type of activity.
  2. When making changes to activity types or other activity fields it would be extremely useful to set up a rule that mass updates historical activities to align to the changes

It’s so difficult to report on Activities without it!

As our org matures and activities are logged more reliably - especially with help from Gong and Zoom integration - this flexibility to adapt will help clean the Timeline, and make it easier for CSMs to search for past activity.

Also helpful since Admins can’t make any edits to activities logged by another user.

Yes! We are updating our activity type names to allow us to use defaulting rules for scorecard updates (we had to move the activity type to the global level and rename the activity types at the company and relationship levels to make the defaulting work). It seems like, since we have a solution dealing with different layouts already at a user updates level, the same logic could be used for a rules-based update. As it stands, we have to make a decision between enabling the default activity type for scorecards (cleaner data going forward, but no way to update the historical records to align), or preserving the historic data and setting users up to select the wrong type for scorecard updates.

I just want to add another comment on this thread. Having the ability to backfill without needing to ask CSMs to manually change x number of activities or doing it via the API route, will save time and align activities with every other GS Object you can update via rule. I’m not sure what’s the reason behind having a separate approach on activities, but by looking at this thread, we’d need those reasons revised. This should be an OOTB functionality.
