I use the same format for specific types of article posts I make on a regular basis. For example:

  • promoting a webinar
  • sharing our course launch list
  • sharing the course of the week.

Right now, I’ve created templates for these scenarios and saved them as article drafts.

When I open a template, I would like to have an option to ‘copy’ the draft, and then work from that copy to create the new post, while preserving the template.

As it is now, I have to open two tabs side by side and copy and paste back and forth between the two – not just the body text, but the subject, the tags, the label, etc.

It would save me a lot of time if I could just click “copy” and work from that new draft while keeping the template intact.

currently taking a look through a bunch of the “post” options as we’re starting to expand the type of content we share from our team members, and there’s a new limitations. This is definitely one of them that I think would help my teams work a lot faster if we had a draft template! I’m looking at adding some additional ideas too, such as being able to save a draft for a conversation or event, and being able to switch authors (helpful when an employee leaves the company, or if you want to ghost write for your CEO).

Thanks for bringing this @LPortalupi

This would be great for our Community too!

Every week we may release “platform improvements”, and the Product update that tells our Community which new improvements were release always uses the same layout.

Having a template would make our lives much easier. Big vote up!

Would love to do this too for posts that are virtually the same and we post them monthly.

Really like this idea. Would save a a lot of time and effort having the ability to copy an article when using the same format for certain posts.

Related would be the ability to create a Template for certain types of articles.

It would be absolutely fantastic if this could be implemented. Ideally I would like an option for two things

  • Save the content of a draft as a template that I can insert in a new draft.
This would be ideal for various formatted text bits that we re-use across multiple types of topics. Currently we need to copy-paste this from existing drafts or articles/updates and while that keeps the basic formatting, we always need to re-apply the text colour.
  • Copy an existing draft or published article/topic completely including its header image, and any tags/product areas etc… that have been applied. This would be ideal for Product Updates and the like that always have the same header image.

Being able to copy a draft, or use a template also makes it easier to delegate writing tasks to team members with less experience. For example, Product Updates for specific products are usually also written by a specific team member. If they are away, someone else needs to take over. Having a ready template for them to work from makes that a lot easier.

Hi everyone, I love these ideas and I am doing discovery work on this currently for requirements. This is not committed 2026 roadmap yet, but here’s what I’m looking to accomplish:

  • Control page to add / edit / remove existing post templates
  • Ability to apply templates manually to posts or private messages in Control or Destination (with permission to do so - expect more with permissions/roles in early 2026!)
  • Add pre-set formatted templates to new posts (let’s say if you wanted users to follow guided template for ideas or bugs)

Use cases would be to improve user and moderator experience when needing provide information in a specific way. For moderators, this would be ideal because they could fill out private messages with templates when they need to reach out to users regularly.

I would still like the ability to copy articles, be they drafts or published in Control.
(I’d also like to be able to stage updates to published articles (creating a new Draft of Published article).)

I agree that templates would be helpful, as we have certain content types that we use consistently. This would save some time.

I agree with @danielwal_coco on the duplicating and staging. There are some QOL improvements related to content management in general (draft/published status toggling, editing published dates, etc. that would be great to see. I know that those are represented in other Ideas, but I wanted to mention them here just in case they could be part of any updates you might make to this space!

Great to hear!

I do agree with the others that an ability to copy an existing article is very much wanted. That would allow us to use an existing article as an ad hoc template that we don't need to have as a permanent one.

Guided templates, specifically for ideas would be ideal. It would allow us to be much more clear to our users what we need from them for an idea to be useful to us.
