Add banner to Sandbox(es) so can identify easily

Could you please look at adding something, like SFDC do with a banner, so we can easily see we are working in a sandbox instead of production. I’m always opening the wrong tab and thinking I’m in one or the other.

Hi All,
Yes this scenario, comes whenever someone is trying to access through identity provider home page eg: okta, where now only one tile is present for all gainsight instance (after SSO), and in case user has access to multiple product instances, we are using their last used log-in to redirect to that particular instance. The confusion might not only with prod/sandbox, but with multiple px subscriptions, community control instances, and education instances. So, we plan to enhance this by adding an intermediary step after clicking on the gainsight tile in okta, which will show the list of instances, the user has access to (similar to app switcher) and then re-direct him to that instance, based on the selection. We have added this to our roadmap and will be available soon.

Hey @Kartheek thanks for the update; in reading this, this would ensure the user is redirected to the correct instance once clicking on their SSO tile, however, confusion also arises from existing tabs already open (which are prod, which are sandbox).. Sure, there are browser extension that can change the favicon of the tab, or tabs can be grouped together - imo, nothing will be better than having a banner at the top of the sandbox saying “this is sandbox tenant id xxxxx”.  Some admins may not want this, but perhaps it could be a configurable choice.

The question remains - is adding the ability to show a banner to the top of your instance on the roadmap?

From my interpretation of your update (SSO intermediary instance selector) and the product enhancement request (a foolproof banner at the top of each page) are not the same thing.

Appreciate any context you can provide on this.

Thanks,

Stuart

Yes @Stuart thks for your comments. Ya i felt this banner on the top has become prominent concern now because of the IDP login flow. Certainly i agree the case, where there are tabs already opened with production and sandbox, there could be some confusion (someone who is quickly not glancing the URL paths / App switcher to figure out Sandbox vs Production). We will relook into this and see if we can do any enhancement here. Thks

Hello everyone! Just a heads-up that we're gearing up to release visual identifier for sandboxes in Q2. Stay tuned for more updates!

@Kartheek thanks for the release of this feature as it is helpful to know that the user is in the Sandbox rather than Production. We have, however, found a hole in the development as the new orange Sandbox icon does not appear in reporting or when you open a Data Designer while in Sandbox. This has caused confusion with our users as they are not sure when they choose a report or data designer in the Sandbox if they are still in the Sandbox or are in Production. I have logged ticket #334565 if you would like more detail.

@Kartheek

We just got a Sandbox and found a similar gap in Rules Engine. The Sandbox banner vanishes during the Data Setup step and only reappears in Action Setup.

Visual indicators should be consistent throughout the UI so users always know which environment they’re in, mixing them up poses a real risk. I've opened ticket #49945 if you'd like to look into it.

@Kartheek Similar gaps in the banner visibility can be found when…

  • Creating or editing an existing connector job
  • Creating new objects in Data Management
  • Adding fields to objects in Data Management
  • The entire Company section (incl. Data Operations) in Data Management
  • Relationship section in Data Management

These are areas of the tool where we definitely need the banner to be persistent and noticeable, especially in the case of us working in multiple tabs across production & sandbox.
