Add Role-Based MCP Permissions

Currently the agent accesses an MCP with the current user's community permissions. So, you need to be an admin/moderator to have full access to community data.

 

We would like to be able to grant full read only access to some employees without having to give them admin on the community. So, we want to request custom role based MCP permissions in the community to grant the various levels of MCP access.

    Hey Andrew, can you share a few examples on what permissions you would open-up to non-admins?

    Ow I would love that as well..

    My example currently is that I have product ops also intrested in the content of the community and wanting to add that to their reports they run through claude. But currently they cannot as they are not an admin…
    For a trial I gave a few an admin seat to see if this is what they are looking for but I need to take those back as well… They want to see if the data they get through Claude is valuable

    Hi Yoeri, the most important thing would be all the analytics tools. Those a required to get reliable numbers on things like votes and views for Ideas. We have several products, each with its own team of product managers. It would be great if they could get access to the analytics without having to make all of them Admins.

     

    Also (I may be mistaken about this) but I believe to scope a search to a category the MCP needs the right category ID, and this is available through the structure tool so having that available to all employees for example would be helpful.

     

    What we would really like to see is a set of MCP specific permissions so we could build our own roles with varying levels of access regardless of the actual community permissions. The default could work off of the community permissions, but then we could have an employee role with analytics access etc.
