Love the concept, but disappointed with the results of this recent release in AE Dashboards.

Global filters should function the same across the platform. Yet again, we are faced with mismatched functionality between Horizon Dashboards and AE Dashboards.

  1. Prepopulating global filters - this is a fundamental requirement to make global filters usable anywhere.
  2. Locking global filters - speaks for itself.

We as admins have come to leaning on these sorts of feature in building out requirements. It is already hard enough to have to explain to our stakeholders when expected behaviour in one area does not match in another. As new releases come out, we need to vet every feature to ensure we fully understand the pitfalls and gaps before we can even adopt them. This ultimately wastes time.

Perhaps the fact that there is not even an option for “CS Adoption Explorer” in the Product Area dropdown when writing this post proves that there is not enough attention being given to this secret treasure within Gainsight.

I’m on-board here.

One area that often has tripped me up is assuming one feature set will act similarly to another related feature set, and then after release realizing I made a poor assumption.

In this case, I might assume Global Filters in Adoption Explorer will act similarly to how they act in the Reports and Dashboard engines, and plan accordingly. Then post-release, I may realize that’s not true, and have to re-plan or re-design my solution, and perhaps go back to my end users with “hat in hand”.

I know features often arrive iteratively. However, I’d love to see over comunicate on what’s in and what’s not. The more we know, even if the news isn’t particularly to our liking, the more effectively we can plan.

THIS. EXACTLY THIS. I represent Gainsight for my users and my company. It is so hard to toe the line there when it becomes a love/hate relationship sometimes.

@gunjanm  @matthew_lind   I am looking into it , what we took was built a behavior very similar to GS Home.  Forever, we love your candid feedback and it has helped us a lot.

Expect a response on our action plan soon.

Thanks @skalle, let me know what else I can do to help shed some light on the use case.

Awesome, @skalle. Appreciate your explanation and your initiative to dig in as well. Even that awareness that GS Home was an inspiration is educational for me. From my vantage point, that’s a great way to communicate and generate clarity on what’s released. Thank you!

As always, looking forward to new and innovative ways to be “better together”.

Hi @matthew_lind
CC :  @gunjanm

I want to re-circle on these concepts of pre-populating.

Today we can pre-populate data  if the field selected is a picklist. Alternately, you can prepopulate data with a static value and save the filter itself.

1)AE today doesn’t support picklist yet, though it is on cards.

2) But we can pre-populate with static value and save the search as an admin and that serves as a Locked , pre-populated filter in AE dashboard.  Look at the AE dashboard here. I populated a value for a license type and saved the search as Admin.

What this does is other end users will now see this dashboard for License Type fixed to “pro tools ultimate trial” . This is the exact behavior in Horizon dashboards and GS Home too.

I will try and setup some time in early Jan to seek further clarification on this.

Regards,

Sailaja

Hi @skalle  - I tested this exactly and logged in as a user. Their License type filter as in this example was just null.

@gunjanm Could you please try saving the global filter search from an Admin profile and then verifying it. I have verified this in one of our customer’s instance from multiple login profiles and it is working as expected.

@shivani I started a new job and am no longer able to validate as my new org is still in onboarding.
