Allow rules engine to batch write to timeline

We need to be able to batch write to timeline from rules engine, for various reasons/use cases:

  1. Be able to mark participation to a specific event (in our case, a product change advisory board) in bulk for all our participants instead of having to create the entry manually for all companies.
  2. Be able to mark key tech touch engagement completion such as onboarding automatically into timeline as they’re milestones in the customer journey (using the AO Participant object/AO Participant Failed object).

It seems timeline currently is that unalterable record except by individual CSMs, but we need to be able to write to it as an admin.

@anirbandutta Can you bring this to the attention of the relevant PM? It’s super annoying to only be able to write milestone. Not everything is a milestone :( and we should NOT have to burden CSMs with some of this manual handling of information...

The most expensive part of building is the mistakes. That's true in construction. Not so much in CSOps. So ask questions, make mistakes and learn. All views expressed here are my own.

@alizee Thanks for sharing the use cases for this request. At this point, it’s not a part of our near term roadmap but will discuss more on this internally. Will update this thread once we have clarity on priority for this item.

We would love to see a "Load to Timeline Activity" action added to Rules Engine.

There are many use cases where Timeline Activities need to be created in bulk, such as:

- Loading historical activities into Timeline during initial implementation or data migration.

- Automatically recording customer journey milestones and engagement history.

- Creating Timeline entries for multiple activities at once without requiring CSMs to manually create each activity.

Currently, the main workaround is using External Actions and APIs. However, from an operational perspective, this approach has several challenges:

- Limited visibility into execution logs.

- More difficult error detection and monitoring.

- Additional complexity compared to native Rules Engine actions.

A native Rules Engine action for Timeline Activities would make administration much easier, especially for bulk updates and automated activity creation use cases.
