Meanwhile, Company and Relationship both offer custom updates: 

 

So why not just make custom updates available for the call-to-action event topic? Consistency and parity are the keys! Shouldn’t be too hard. 

 

PS: event framework might be a workaround if only it was well documented…

I’m feeling this big-time. We need to have a custom field on our CTA object get synced back in real time to the Company object. This should be basic functionality that real-time rules deliver.
