Better search in Control

I have a feature request that will, if provided, make everyone’s monitoring and moderation process a lot easier:

Currently the search in the Control Panel is limited to finding exact word matches. But it doesn't show fitting results when a search term is part of a word.

Example:

When I search for "number", I would also like to get results like "phonenumber" or "phone-number" etc.

This is especially important as we're a german-speaking company and the german language is full of these compound words.

German examples:


Search term: "Konferenz"
We want to get results like:
"Telefonkonferenz", "Konferenzschaltung"


Search term: "unterdrück"
We want to get results like:
"unterdrückt", "Unterdrückung", "Rufnummernunterdrückung"


I'd be happy with one of the following outcomes:

  • The search also includes part-words
  • inSided provides us with operator/wildcard characters like "*" so we can do both - search for exact word matches but also search for part-words

    It makes sense to also search for part-words. I can relate to the struggle you have with the German compound words :see_no_evil:

    Do you see any drawbacks of always including part-words in the search?

      Do you see any drawbacks of always including part-words in the search?

      Including part-words may lead to a few results that don’t fit the intended search (fun → funeral, eat → cheat), but overall the search results quality will be better in my opinion because the likelihood of missing content that fits the criteria but wasn’t found before will go down significantly.

          We have over 3,000 articles (we develop/sell a lot of products) in our kbase inventory. The Search need to be rock-solid and intuitive. If I search for X Y X but the article title is X Z Y, I still want to see it in my search results. I also want to be able to use modifiers such as quotation marks for exact search and minus-sign for exclusion.
