When people request to join a private group it would be great to have some way to capture some answers to a custom question such as why they want to join the group.
Hi, @Scott Baldwin thanks for submitting your idea. Can you extend the idea a little bit for us to understand better? Options that I can think of for this are
- Having an empty text box (probably make it optional to fill in) so users can enter whatever they want
- Something more like what we have as user profile fields, so the moderator will be able to add multiple questions and expect users to answer those questions when they apply.
Does one of them look good to you or can you add a third option if you have something else on your mind?
In our case we have a number of private groups, an example is our Womxn in Product group. When people request to join, it would be nice if we could share a few questions with them to gather more details about them and their interest in the group, how they hope to contribute, etc.
Indeed directly jumping to a solution is not something nice, those options are just helping me better understand what kind of problems you are trying to solve. Thanks for the extra info @Scott Baldwin.
I'd put this idea to 'open' to collect more votes and feedback.
The ability to add a number of (required) fields to fill in when requesting to join a private group would be an ideal solution for us. We run beta testing via groups, but there are requirements for approval. Such as having a certain device or product from us. Now we need to gather this info through off-site means (survey) and then approve. It would be so much easier to get this with the join request.
