Certificate actions on learning path completion

Course completion actions currently include the option to award a certificate. We use that pretty widely.

However, for most of our courses, we would prefer to award certificates for learning path completion. Our live courses map onto learning paths, not single courses. Many single courses are short (as is generally recommended), but awarding a certificate for a 20-minute course seems to trivialize the certificate and over-complicate certificate management.

So, we would like the certificate completion actions from courses to be available for the learning path completion actions.

Our current workaround is to place a certificate course at the end of each path. This course has prerequisites to complete all courses in the path. It uses auto-registration and has a single congratulations lesson, so users are awarded a certificate when they click it from the learning path. This method works OK, but for us it has a few downsides:

• We update and archive learning paths with new software releases, which requires regularly changing the prerequisites of these certificate courses.
• I consider these certificate courses unnecessary, since the course is basically empty.
