The report message users see when no data exists for a report is misleading. Users tend to think the message refers to a bug or an issue with the report; instead, it usually results from no data existing for the given filters.

I’d like to change the “Data is not available at this time” message to something more meaningful for a user that educates them on why data is not “available.”

Maybe something like:

No data is available for your current view. This may be due to your settings, selections, or the absence of matching data.

This is such a not good look… especially if we’re sending reports externally.

As it stands, we have to exclude external recipients if they would receive a chart with no data, so if one of their charts would show no data, they don’t get anything in an email they might normally expect to see. 😔

Posted this earlier (re: dynamic content).

Great Improvement on the current placeholder message!

I recently had a similar thought. If I wanted to troubleshoot and provide/grant access, the current message gives my no clue where to start.

No way this is only 11 months old...there’s got to be one from years ago :p

This would be a nice change for end users, even if it’s small. I get a lot of requests about “data not being available” every year, when it’s just that the number of records is 0, and instead they get this message.

Really unclear to anyone if it’s a problem, or just nothing there.

This would be a great QoL improvement and would definitely cut down the number of confused messages our Ops team receives from end users. Even better if it was dynamic, though that would be more for admin troubleshooting:

  • No data is available in your current view. This could be because…
  • No data is present in the source object.
  • The Data Design supporting this object has expired.

Etc.
