Controlling Communications with Course Settings

An idea I’ve had for awhile would be adding an option within course settings to select what type of email comms I would want to send out for that specific course.

For context, I created a series of email templates within my academy for the different types of comms. For example, one version is for a required course we are enrolling everyone in and another version would be for those course that aren’t required but we want everyone to be aware of.

I think it would be very cool if within the course settings, I could select from a drop down menu the type of email I would want to be sent out when I publish that specific course.

    Hey Cece!

    Thanks for reaching out. In cases like this I usually recommend to use the Course Options configuration in the Settings tab of individual Communications messages. There, you can specify for which courses exactly the message should be triggered.

    In your case, you can set up two separate messages and select proper sub-set of courses for each - one with the courses that are required and the other - with optional ones.

     

    I can see how allowing for this configuration in Course settings as well could improve the usability in some cases. Is your suggestion of moving it there a matter of convenience, or are there any other gaps we should be aware of?
