Creating timeline activity via rules?

Great news!!

Because our Sales team log things to SFDC, and our CS Team log things to Timeline. 

If Sales and CS attend the same call they may both log it and it means we end up with duplicates (not exactly, but in terms of company/date/type/attendee’s etc). 

Also Sales aren’t actually actively logging things, but using Einstein, so this pulls from their calendars automatically and creates an event in SF on their behalf. These typically don’t have notes included, may be cancelled later.

So if CS has already logged that particular item we’re really not interested in bringing over Sales’ less-informative version, but if it’s a Sales-only meeting we would still like to know the meeting happened (and with who). 

Doing this via rules engine would give us that flexibility to pick when we do and don’t add stuff to timeline. 

The recurring event issue is different, if Sales have created an event in SF (again likely via Einstein) and the Recurring box is checked then that actually results in seperate event records created for the same thing every week/month/year or whatever. There’s no way to not bring these ones over in the SF integration today because the fields we can identify them via are not available as filters. 

Lastly often the notes are missing, or required fields are, which means the sync fails. 

We don’t use the SF sync for these reasons, but would LOVE to bring over stuff from SF if we can do some determination and manipulation via rules engine first. 

Separately, just with all other parts of the platform (I keep dreaming), please make it so we can update/edit timeline types that aren’t active for end-users. 

Rules engine/admins shouldn’t have the same restrictions placed on it as our users.
