Custom fields in Data Design

We have come across more and more use cases that would benefit from the ability to add custom fields to data designs. For example, if we create a data design and build reports from it, but the users want to enrich the data we would have to do one of two options:

• Add another field to the actual objects sourcing to the design (which just blows the field list out for specific use cases) OR
• Create an entirely new objects based on the data design but have the extra field(s) that are required for the use case. 

Example use case: Data design that shows survey response data. Management wants to be able to put a checkbox and text field next to each record to indicate follow up action and related context. Since we cannot add custom fields to survey objects we would have to create a new object with all of the fields in the data design and add the new requested fields and then rebuild all of the reporting so accommodate the new source. 

Since the data design is already a bit of a transient object, it would be great if we could just add a field(s) to it for the time that it is needed.
