We are stetting up groups for our members, and finding the lack of configuration after created to be an issue.  I’d like to see the ability to reorder the groups, as well as change the group from public to private, or vise versa, with the existing group members grandfathered in.

Hi @wedgar, thanks for sharing your idea with us :)

You’d like to have more configuration options after group creation. I have some questions:

  1. What would you like to achieve by reordering the groups?
  2. What’s the use case of changing the group setting between public and private? Some examples would be very helpful.

Hi @xiaoyu-shen!

We have a very segmented customer base, in which our product works a little differently per segment.  We see groups as a way to provide product specific information to these segments.  As certain segments become more popular, we need to be able to move the order of groups for how they show up on the page.  Also, changing from public to private and vice versa, this would be nice as I’ve set up all my groups, and didn’t realize I wanted them private.  So I either have to delete and start over, or stick with the original setting.  Feels like it should have the same functionality as other areas in the platform.

We totally agree with @wedgar .

Another reason why we want the option to change a group into public/private:

When we start public groups, all the content will be shown in the recent active feed. This could be a problem, because that can push other '’'non group content'’ down the feed.

We have no idea what the impact will be and there is no way to exclude public group content from the feed. That is one reason we would like to have the option to change public groups into private groups.

I would also really welcome the possibility to make a group private once created public. We started with a public group and noticed people don’t join because it’s public. Closing it would give them an incentive to join.

At Deezer, I've created a group to segment a cohort for app testing and feedback - in order to get these users as volunteers, it would be great to start the group as public and then close it up once we've got enough people for the project.

Hello @Rudi @GloriaQuintanilla @Hiewwaiy @wedgar @Selina @Scott Baldwin @security_lion @Kgastaldo @Anitahg @abaker @jenaceto @tiffany.oda

I''m happy to announce that this idea is now partially delivered :) . You can now edit a group from public to private and vice versa.

Here is the KB article to find out how:

We are also planning to improve the knowledge base overview page to allow ordering and group of groups.  More to come on that soon :)

@Marion Frecaut that’s great, thanks! What about not revealing the members of private groups that are visible in the overview, when will that be fixed?
