As this Feverbee blog reminds us, public communities attract a lot of new traffic via SEO. As a result, new users are more likely to come in through the back or side door, rather than the front door.

We would love to be able to customize which Topic Sidebar widgets show based on user role.

Use case: unregistered / logged-out users could see an HTML widget with a CTA to join or login, then hiding that widget for logged-in registered users.

Many other use cases could come from there if this was possible.

Thanks @DannyPancratz for the idea, I'll keep it open to gather some votes :)

@DannyPancratz I’m not sure how this only got 3 votes???

I wonder if everyone is just using custom scripts to do this so are not bothered by the lack of a user interface. While it would add a layer of complexity to the “Customise” interface it means maximising real estate everywhere on every single page through more relevant sidebars, so hopefully by replying now this gets more noticed and hence upvoted!

In the meantime the workaround remains:

And an example of this I recently shared with you here:

I just discovered this too and am pretty surprised it only got 5 votes! For my community at least, catching those memberships is the single most important thing we need to move the needle on right now.

I was just asked for this exact thing today
