Do not allow sending PM without any public interaction

Hello Insided,

In our community, public help is the main focus and encouragement users. However, sometimes and ultimately, it can be via PM with a private profile that we have for this purpose (cases where we need to ask for personal data or provide more specific help internally).

In recent times, due to several factors, we have had unwanted MP input volumes. To mitigate this I would like to know the possibility to create a rule that for new users without any type of interaction (0 topics, 0 replies, 0 posts) does not allow sending a message to PM to the private profile. It's possible?

This block would only be for users without any kind of interaction. As soon as the user had any public interaction (topic, post, reply) the possibility to send PM would be available again.

    That’s actually a pretty neat idea there!

    Hope you don’t mind if I give my thoughts on it as a user. And one of them is that I love this idea a lot.

    I would probably suggest a very small tweak though. And that’s to allow such users to reply to existing PM threads created by someone else without restriction, but not to start a new PM thread either globally, or to specific users/roles. :)

    That way, I could still reach out a brand new user to say hi (if I wanted to) and allow them to reply to me, even if they can’t just blindly reach out to me.

    In actual fact @Miguel V. … I think I have a workaround for you that may help you out in the meantime.

    https://community.insided.com/settings/general as an example.

    Change this setting to People you follow

    And then just make sure to Follow users that you want to use that dedicated Private Mod PM Account with just before you offer the option to take the discussion to PM. This will allow those users to PM the account while still locking out unwanted guests.

    You can then Unfollow users once they no longer need to PM that account.

    Not perfect I admit, but hopefully it’s something!

    Thanks @Miguel V. and @Blastoise186 for the additional context and possible workaround. While I understand the need, this isn’t something we plan to cater for in the future.
