Our users would like to have exact time stamp on a topic:
"No clear and exact time stamp on a topic, other than week-month ago etc."

It has been a while, but i'm curious if there is any news regarding the timestamps?

Hallo!

Any news on this?
I was asked by my colleagues about this last week (they often feel like the confused math lady when checking dates of posted content) and just found this vote (and upvoted).

Also, in the Tabs widget and Featured topics widget (and maybe in others), the date does not even show when you hover over the time stamp, so you need the extra click to go to the content.

Thanks!

Hi all! Thanks for flagging this.

A couple of quick questions as we look at this:

Hover already shows the exact date today, is that not landing for members, admins? Curious whether the ask is more about having it visible inline without needing to hover, or if the hover itself isn't working reliably in your experience.

Also, when you say exact timestamp, does timezone matter? Would you want it in your local timezone, the community's timezone, or UTC?

Appreciate the patience on this one.

@Sudhanshu For me, there are a couple challenges with this.

  1. The displayed dates are imprecise. I’m looking at a post in our Community now that was posted April 1, but it says “2 months ago,” even though it was almost 3 months ago. For our Community, this can be challenging when the dates of an announcement or release notes or something like that can be important.
  2. The hover behavior is not intuitive. I have only thought to hover because the dates are imprecise and I’m trying to get more clarity. Even once I know that the behavior exists, it adds an extra step.

Ultimately, I’m just not sure what is gained by using approximate time frames over specific dates.

For us, time stamp/time zones is less of an issue, but the date matters to us.

Maybe it could be a preference option? Select approximate dates or precise, as well as select your preferred format for dates to display in (e.g., 6/26/26, 6.26.26, 2026-06-26, etc.).
