You’ve got a great topic that’s really well indexed. You’ve optimised the best answer so it’s still accurate. But there are comments below that are really old.

You don’t want to get rid of them permanently, but realistically, the more recent ones are more helpful. Why not auto hide comments after x date. The user can select ‘show all comments’ if they want.

Hi @timcavey, thank you for this idea! You mentioned that the most recent ones are more helpful, so I’d like to follow up asking if maybe showing the most recent replies first by default would address the need for a feature that hides comments? Also, I’m curious to know if you think the amount or replies should play a role in this hiding the replies or not? Of course, happy to hear your thoughts as well, @Ditte! Thank you 😊

Hi @Cristina

INHO the ‘newest first’ option is worse than having old comments showing at the top, if you have as your goal a recent and easy to follow conversation in the comments section.

To follow the convo thread one would need to scroll to the bottom of the page and work up. Not ideal.

I get your point that if a topic only had, say, 3 comments, and one was very old, perhaps hiding it isn’t as necessary. I’d still say that as it shows at the top, it still serves to put off anyone who visits the topic only to find a very prominent comment from 4 years ago. In my mind we risk that visitor assuming the whole thread is old...

Great suggestion!

I envision a setting that lets me globally hide all comments in a topic that are older than one year, for example. So when a user opens any topics, instead of the first comment there is a “show older comments” button that expands all the hidden comments when clicked, followed by all comments that are “younger” than a year.
