Import contacts via CSV with custom role

Oh so what does the Import Contacts via csv do in the ‘Contacts Overview’ of control? @Dick @SmartlyGreg 

@anirbandutta simply imports contacts without any predefinition of custom role or anything.

I wish inSided provides this feature for us ASAP.

I guess the bulk-assigning role is 1 solution.

However this doesn’t solve our current use case, described below:

Custom Roles are a fantastic way to tag members in order to better segment them and track their behavior in the Analytics user Dashboard.

We want to give certain members, e.g. those who attended a certain event, a custom role at bulk.

The attendee lists would sit on an excel sheet. so the idea is to be able to match them with our member base and have a column where we add the role we want to assign.

Possible paths:

• 1) Being able to import custom role data via csv
• 2) Being able to import Segmentation data (assign a user to a segment) via csv, and then in a next step, bulk-assign that custom role

@Daniele Cmty for your use case (which I read as users already in your community), you should be able to do that in bulk via the API. 

Not the easiest and requires some technical expertise, but your internal tech teams and/or support might be able to help you setup the API call via Zapier or even just postman (free tool) for when you need to run these bulk assigning of roles.

I thought zapier only works for events / triggers, not with static lists. TIL! :)

@Daniele Cmty It does, but I’d imagine you could trigger something where it runs based on new rows added to a sheet. I have a lot of things based on that. 

The easier option might be to use another API took like postman to run an ad hoc API call for the Bulk Add Role to User. 

I taught myself how to use postman easily enough (with help from @matt enbar and some colleagues), but this type of thing is a bit more complex and I normally kick it over to my more technical colleagues. They report that if you have the data set, it should be pretty easy.
