Improve quoting functionality/design
Hi there,
Often times when a long message is quoted the conversation gets more and more difficult to follow. Just think of someone who quotes a whole article with the word ‘agree’. Any follow up quotes will make the thread incredibly long and you have to scroll down to read just one sentence or word. See image below:
Moreover, I don’t think anyone needs to see the entire quote, perhaps an extract is enough. So I can suggest a couple of ways to improve this:
- Make all quotes short and nicely formated (show the first one or two lines) and allow to expand/read the whole quote if necessary through a dropdown button - seen this in other forums.
- Allow users to quote only selected text, as opposed to the entire message - seen this in other forums.
- Make quotes lighter by default so they can be easily distinguished from the reply.
This can make threads much easier to follow and allow higher quality interactions.
