Improved Action Setup for Horizon Rules

Hopefully not a repost, though I’m sure I’ve seen similar, and probably made similar.

The Setup Action page isn’t great if you have more than three actions:

I’m sure I’ve commented already on the criteria getting clipped and the action not having any useful information on it. Here, you can see that the number of additional criteria is barely even visible.

The main issue is the workflow. If I ever want to work on one of these 25 other actions, I have to click show more criteria. When I work on the action, save and close it, I’m not even snapped back to the design. I’m just in empty space. See gif below to embark on a delightful journey with me:

I’d really like to have more show by default or at the very least when I expand the list, have it stay expanded while I’m on the Actions Page unless I collapse it myself.

Part of the reason for this is I’d also really like to see which actions are active, which are not, AND have the ability to toggle actions off without having to go into each action individually.

If the actions are all on the same criteria branch, it’s pretty easy to see what is/isn’t active and do the toggling. But for the most part, my actions all have different criteria and, as you can see above, going into each action to toggle it on or off is a nightmare:

  • You have to go through this expand, click, scroll, expand, click, scroll nightmare 25 times.
  • Because of that, and the fact you can’t see if the action you just toggled off is off or not, it’s hard to keep track.

Toggling actions on and off is great for testing, but really hard to manage for larger rules. When I wanted to test this rule, I ended up cloning it, and just deleting everything because it was easier :(, and even that was a pain.

I would settle for the system just remembering whether I had expanded or collapsed the Actions within a single session and honoring that for the duration. Currently, if I need to add or edit criteria or update the config across several Actions the list collapses every time I open anything which is super annoying.

The HOURS I waste every week clicking that silly expand every time I make an update to an action.

I wish I was exaggerating.

This UI/UX behavior has changed the way I create rules and set up action branches. Which feels strange that UI/UX is affecting/driving the logic behind rules.

If a rule requires more than 5 action branches, I will instead have an additional data setup step, a transform with a Case field to ‘pre-calculate’ a value and ‘hide’ the filter logic that would normally be more visible in action branches. But this cannot be done in every case.

Where this fails: In creating CTAs in the Call to Action you cannot always use fields to set values, to set the Owner as a User Group this action REQUIRES a separate branch.

This issue has consistently been a source of concern for many of us. The complex rules make it really challenging to track changes effectively. It would be great to see some progress on this matter. Thank you for considering our concerns!

Yesterday, I wasted 3+ hours troubleshooting and auditing just two rules with heavy action setups: juggling dual monitors and hand-written notes just to ensure no configurations were broken or missed during updates. The current Rules Engine UX is incredibly frustrating to work with when handling complex logic.

So here I am, on my 4th yearly comment streak ('23, ‘24, ‘25, ‘26) pleading the product team to please prioritize Rules Engine usability

It is concerning that this has been acknowledged without  much else - the thread is aging, the gap still exists and your admins are expressing their frustration with this design failure. I’m not sure what else I can add here, but it is clear that a change needs to happen sooner rather than later.

Dear GS team, I know you are now all into AI stuff, but the rule engine is still here (luckily) and needs improvement.
Please focus on this too.

Thanks
