Limit Timeline options within each feature/function

Users are getting confused with all the various areas they can log Timeline entries.

Admins should be able to limit the Timeline types by functional area, so that only the types that are applicable to the particular function are selectable.

For example, if I have a manual Scorecard measure, I only really don’t need all my Timeline activity types to be available there - I only need one: Update.

Also, for a specific CTA type, I may want only a specific Timeline type to be selected.

Make it easier for admins to make it easier for end users to know when/where to log a specific Timeline activity type.

@ChiragJ here’s a real-world example of where lack of this functionality is causing problems.

In this example, this user logged an entry 3 times, which appears in reporting like 3 separate updates for the same account when it was only intended to be one. This skews reporting.

  1. CSM first logged the entry through Company, but that disembodies it from the Scorecard.
  2. CSM then logged it through the wrong Measure.
  3. CSM then logged it through the correct Measure.

I understand the last pivot from 2 - 3 was a procedural issue, but just shows how confusing this can be for users to be able to log to an Activity Type from *anywhere*.

Help us help them!

I will add:

We would like to ability to lock-down certain factors on a timeline entry for editing.  For example, when items sync in through our Salesforce timeline, if a CSM updates, this information will be overwritten in the resync back from SF if/when it happens.

@ChiragJ its been a year since your post on this thread.  May you provide an update on where this sits in terms of prioritization?

This feature is not included in our H2 roadmap. To be transparent, our focus for the second half of the year is on Auto Email Capture, which will automatically bring emails from a user’s mailbox into the Timeline. This will include user controls and additional features to enhance the user experience.
Along with that, we are working on support for relationship resolution for meetings logged with AI Follow-Up and improving automatically captured emails.

@ChiragJ  Can we get an ETA of when this will be considered?  This upcoming approach sounds like it would only benefit if the company is directly using Gainsight and not documenting through Salesforce, Outreach, etc.

We don’t have this planned for coming quarter. We will consider this in our planning for next year and share an update on the timing. @manda.edmonds
