Make Custom Pages Searchable

Custom pages are islands by themselves, need to be featured from either the homepage widget or a content.

It would help to make them Searchable for keywords that match their Title and Description  so if I’m interested around “Community Management”, Search is my go-to…

That Search box helps me not worry about how Navigation is designed but return:

Content, Events, Ideas, Custom Pages on the Subject and People (why not)?

Hi Anirban! This totally makes sense. Keeping this idea open to gather more votes.

Came here to add this idea and very happy to see @anirbandutta beat me to it!

Adding to it with:

Use Case: Topic-based resource pages, related to a specific tag.

Here’s a likely scenario:

  1. Users make a lot of posts with a specific tag
  2. Community team notices, develops resources
    1. FAQ articles
    2. Training
    3. Videos
    4. Events
  3. Community team makes custom landing page to better organize that in a good UX
    1. Guided learning from A to B and B to
    2. Quick links of the FAQs
    3. Recommendations widgets of the top 10 posts
    4. Quick links to resources that might live “off” the community on a different LMS or CMS

My recommendations / hopes for this feature would be to add the following for custom pages

  • Search keywords (like SEO descriptions, etc)
  • Public Tags (same as any topic)
  • Prioritize custom pages as a heavily weighted content type in Search

On that one, the use case I shared above highlights how custom pages will often be “higher value” than individual posts. Not just a better UX, but a curated collection of top content that’s typically better than a search algorithm.

I recommend weight custom pages among the top of search result content. Users can always filter them out if you make that content type filterable like others.

Any updates regarding this?

Would be super nice, as we’re trying to set up pages for users to get information and widgets to direct them to other places such as our main site. It’s absolutely possible via an article, but a custom page is so much better and clean in this instance.

Adding a +1 for this idea - this functionality is critical for our plans to use our Community to provided guided paths through the steps of using our product. Our Ops team is considering a move to another platform if we can’t make our custom pages searchable in Gainsight Community. @Aman
