Optional courses within learning paths

All courses must be completed to complete a learning path. Sometimes, we’d like to include optional courses that are in the path but do not need to be completed to complete the learning path.

For example, for all our live courses, we currently have a setup like this:

• A live course that has information about the live course (slides, recordings, and event signups)
• An on-demand learning path with all the actual course content

We separate these courses so we can maintain all the course content in one place and treat the on-demand and live versions of courses as basically the same. However, some users get confused because the course content is stored separately from the live course, even though we link to it.

Including the live course as an optional course within the learning path would be helpful.

There are probably other solutions to this specific live vs. on-demand course problem, but optional courses in learning paths could also be useful for other use cases.
