But as @Blastoise186 comments about security risks indicates, there may be reasons not to open it up that much.

Instead, I propose some pre-configured profile fields that enable clickable link to whitelisted social platforms (Linkedin, Twitter, Reddit, etc)

I have seen this on a lot of event and and community platforms, where the www.linkedin.com/ is hardcoded and the user just provides their personal handle or URL to fill out the rest of the details, and then enabling a clickable link embed on the profile.

@Ati Somos Linkedin is our #1 by far.

For us, I’d prioritize them in this order:

Linkedin
Twitter
YouTube

Those three are a clear tier above others for our professional community. I would imagine Instagram, Reddit, and others would have wide appeal as well.

We would also like links in the user profile. It doesn't have to be a pre-configured option, any link would be possible.

It would also be nice to be able to use a link in our signature, maybe only for certain ranks. Example: a few weeks ago we were nominated for an award for two of our commercials. A link in the signature would be a nice way to give it a bit more subtle attention 🙂
