Replacing reports in dashboards every time you edit a report is time consuming

I often make small changes to my reports that live on multiple dashboards. I end up having to go in to every dashboard and replace the report. I understand that this is because of 'User State Preservation', but if I am making changes to the foundation of the report, I actually need that to override what is currently there. Having to switch out every report I edit from within the dashboard takes a ton of time and is not ideal. Typically, these things get updated in real time when you edit the underlying core of the reports.

      Hello Ky,

      If you make the following changes to the report and save it, the change gets reflected on the dashboards its used in, by just refreshing the dashboard;
      1) Add a column / attribute to the report
      2) Remove a column or attribute from the report
      3) Add a filter to the report
      4) Delete a filter from the report
      5) Change the visualization type

      Only change made on the report the doesn't get reflect on the dashboards using it is the change of filter criteria. This is by design and to make sure that the end user criteria on the dashboard is preserved. Please let me now if your understanding is the same.

        This is a problem for us as well. For one of our reports, we needed to add a filter (which does get updated for end users) but also change a filter.  The filter we added and the filter we changed were both date filters.  These two need to be the same time period. Unfortunately, because I can't override the one I just changed, there's no way for me to ensure the new date filter matches whatever the end user last had selected for the original date filter.  Does that make sense?

          This is a very cumbersome and unpredictable situation for us as well...it leads to very unpredictable reporting at the sr. leadership level

            Hi All,

             

            In the existing reporting system, we do have the feature called User State Preservation. The idea of this feature is to remember some of the changes done by end users (CSM’s or Execs) so that they are not lost when they refresh the page. What this means is - any structural changes which are done to the report (adding a new field, adding a new filter, etc.) are automatically propagated. Some changes such as filter value changes, visualization changes, the changes that end users can do are automatically not propagated. They see their saved state. 

             

            We understand that this feature sometimes causes frustration for admins and with horizon analytics we have taken the following steps to address it: 

            • User state preservation does not happen automatically. We only save changes which the end users want to save. They have to click a save button.
            • We are giving an option per dashboard to clear the user states per dashboard in the dashboard builder.
            • End users themselves can clear the state of the entire dashboard in one go

               

            Hope these changes will lead to a more predictable reporting behavior.

              HI @rakesh this is a great start - but we really need the option to clear user state at report level vs at the dashboard level.  If I have a report which is leveraged on multiple dashboards - I have to go find EVERY dashboard which leverages the report and clear the states. Our company has over 30 dashboards - this can become a tedious exercise and cause more confusion and inconsistency if I clear states on some dashboards and not others.
