Our industry and community uses abbreviated words often. I need to be able to search for part of the word with all of the results appearing. The current search functionality bring results in for exact words only.

Example: I’m searching for “collab” right now with the expectation that the results will include collab, collaborator, and collaborators. That is not the case.

+1, our team is in the early stages of rolling out our Community, and this type of flexibility would be incredibly useful for driving discoverability and surfacing relevant content more effectively. Our users (and internal teams) frequently use abbreviations, partial terms, and acronyms (especially when navigating technical or product-specific discussions). Without the ability to search by partial word or stem, we risk creating friction for users trying to find related topics, resources, or threads.

This enhancement would also support improved tagging and cross-linking, enabling us to better analyze and guide engagement based on common search behaviors and terminology.

Hi,

Maybe @Yoeri or @deepan  could confirm, but I am wondering if we have fixed this in our latest round of search improvements. I do recall hearing that we are also e.g. taking typos into account, and I believe this could be somewhat related. When I search for “collab” I seem to find results for “collaboration” as well now. Please let me know if you have more examples / new observations that could add to the discussion.

Hi Julian, thanks for tagging me. I can confirm that our search is already set up to work this way. When you type a word like “collab,” it will also bring back results that start with that word, such as “collaborator” or “collaboration.” This is because our search looks at the beginning of words, not just exact matches.

We also treat singular and plural versions of a word the same, so “collaborator” and “collaborators” will both show up with equal priority.

Since this is already how our search works, I’ll go ahead and close this idea.
