Hi

This may well something included in the ‘New Dashboards’ but I wanted to highlight this inconsistency(?) and propose it as an ‘Idea’ if is indeed true.

I have always been a big user of Segments and glad to see how it works with the new Personalisation. 

Segments are the primary way in which I segment 2 key Products and therefore user groups of our Community. I can create different home page experiences for them, I can email them separately, but according to Analytics -- I can’t report on them separately. Am I missing something?

Now, I could add a ‘Custom Role’ to everyone in this segment called ‘Product A’ and then use that as a filter, this has been a work around for a few things in the past. This means a manual task must always take place before pulling data, or it is simply out of date. It would be a little more efficient and consistent if I could report on segments directly, surely?

Incidentally I have signed up to the New Dashboards Beta but when I go to Analytics and click on it, it says it is not enabled for me.

You are correct that it is not possible to filter through Segments in our Analytics dashboard. Although I think it’s a cool idea and understand the use case I do see a few challenges with this. Namely, Segments being dynamic (users can fall in and out of segment based on meeting / not meeting certain conditions) means that it could be difficult to represent analytics over different timeframes. Using your screenshot as an example, how would we display total users between 23rd Aug - 21st Sep if users had fallen in and out of a certain segment during this timeframe? 

 

My advice would be to utilise custom roles to distinguish who is a customer of each product / a combination of products. Where does your source of truth live for this kind of data? There are ways that this can be automated, either through parsing custom roles through your SSO payload or through the API and tools like Zapier.
