Set another default sorting order in the comments section

Hey everyone!

We have articles and discussions with a lot of updates and comments that happens frequently. When you enter these topics, you have the default sorting order as “Oldest first”. This works perfectly for new or shorter topics in my opinion.

Of course you can change the sorting once you’ve opened up the topic, but I think that this option might be overlooked a lot of the times.

I would love an option to toggle the default sorting option for comments on specific articles or topics, so that users that want to see the latest update in an ongoing topic/article gets that presented at first glance. :grin:

    I have a few follow up questions. Are you suggesting that each user have can set their default sorting preference. So that each time they go to a topic, the order is the same for them?

    Or are you saying that for some topics, you will like to change the default sorting of the replies? In that case, I am a bit afraid that the inconsistency between topics can be confusing for end users. 

    Curious to hear your thoughts.

      This is not for all of our topics - but we have a couple that are very long, and we’ve received feedback from superusers that the sorting order should be the other way around. 

      I was thinking of a “toggle-option” that’s only if visible for staff to operate, so that we easily can change the order of replies.

          Maybe useful, but we deal with this in some of our topics by making them questions, and then marking each update as answer so it is directly visible in the topic start message. Then, when we add a new update at a later moment, we mark that as answer to replace the previous.
