Staircase allows you to set up Stakeholder Roles. Some can’t be changed, but you can add your own. Staircase also only accepts single role values for a given Stakeholder, and suggests mapping them from your CRM.

This is fine, but in the modern age, it would be great to leverage Staircases own capabilities to identify these roles for you. In fact, the hand-off analyst does this, but that is only for new accounts.

Here’s what would be interesting:

As an alternative to just mapping from a picklist in your CRM that is likely hand maintained (or not at all, or somewhere in between), you can set up Stakeholder Insights.

  • You define what roles you want, similar to today
  • Instead of stopping at the role name, you add some context as to what someone in that role would sound like.
  • You then have the ability to write the “Insight” derived role to a field on Staircase
  • Ideally, a human could overwrite it if it seems incorrect as well
  • This would not be limited to new accounts, but any existing ones as well.

This would be a huge add, especially in our digital space where our ~5 CSMs are managing hundreds of accounts and can’t possibly handle manually updating the stakeholders one at a time on each.

Even better - exposing this to the MCP would be a way to cross-check it with our other tools (inc. ones that might not have a Staircase connector) to help bolster the confidence & analysis before proceeding with an update.

Yes! This would actually fix the root problem instead of working around it. CRM role fields are usually stale or half-maintained anyway, so mapping from them just imports bad data.

You already prove out the better way with the hand-off analyst on new accounts, since Stakeholder Insights is just extending that same trick everywhere, with a human override if it gets something wrong. Feels less like a new feature and more like removing an arbitrary limit on something you've already built. I’d love to see this get picked up!
