Subscribe button to Ideas module

Our PMs are really getting engaged with the community Ideas and that’s great! But it means I have been asked about this missing functionality quite a few times now. Please consider implementing this soon! Thank you

Echoing @Chris Hackett if this were in place we’d see a much higher number of pageviews for sure FYI @Julian 

We also think that this should be implemented, as a huge part of our closed B2B Community is the ideation functionality.

Do you have any updates on this request? I agree this would be valuable for our community members and myself. 

What are some ways that community managers are getting notified of new Ideas? Checking it everyday is not ideal, and the dashboard has it nested under less important tabs for me. ​@Julian 

Well it looks to me like there will be an improvement coming soon which will add such a functionality, although it might be in a slightly different way than what you might expect… We are currently working on enabling users to subscribe to product areas - this will also include the ideas module:

How I understand it, we want to offer a subscribe button for the idea module but, instead of making it a general subscription to all ideas (which can be quite overwhelming), users will get to choose which product areas they'd like to subscribe to.

Hence I think this idea status should be updated as well, as it seems as we are gettling closer to implement this. :) 

Regarding your question: Normally, Community Managers would not subscribe to ideas, as usually CMs do not work with individual email notifications to be up to speed with community engagement. It is just not practical. You would usually see CMs using the Product Feedback Dashboard or crafting a dedicated view in the Moderation Overview for this. 

In all honesty, I simply used the frontend for that at times as well to quickly check on what has been posted lately as well as what has been trending in terms of votes or comments.

As ​@Julian said, we are planning to allow a subscription to the Ideation module as a whole like it currently happens in the Product Updates module and then use Product Areas as filters to granulate upon which notifications a user would receive.

If you have Product A, B and C, via Product Areas you will be able to opt-out of C, for example, to receive notifications of ideas (or product updates) created tagged with Product Areas of your interest only (A and B in this example).

This is still being fine-tuned so things may change, however the overall workflow should not deviate far from what I described.

I do not have a clear timeline for this to be worked on, but I can say it is on the roadmap for this year and is one of our next priorities.

Thank you ​@Julian and ​@hhugo, I also submitted some feedback for the dashboard via the form yesterday as it would be a lot easier for me to see if there are open ideas rather than navigate to the page view. There’s only so much time in the day and I’d like to save as much of it as possible.

Totally understandable and thanks for sharing this feedback! We are also working on the custom Dashboards this year, so I hope that you will be able to configure a view that should deliver exactly what you are looking for.

We're actively working to bring this to development. The plan is to enhance the subscriptions UI with the ability to choose which categories you want notifications for so you're not flooded with every idea, just the ones relevant to your interest while allowing for subscribing to the full Ideas module as well. We'll share an update here once we have a timeline to confirm.
