Track user interaction on widgets

Hey,

We’ve built some custom widgets and we'd like to be able to track their performance; clicks on a button, user_id.

Is there anything out of the box that would allow us to track these? Usually the buttons lead to a page within CC, if we add a parameter in the URL, could this be identified in the analytics (control or powerbi)?

I am ideally not looking to use Google Tag Manager 😃

@Aleksandra I see in the CC Data Lake there is the uservent table, which tracks a bunch of things including clicks. It would be great if we could track widget clicks and record the classes 😉

Hi @jvdc! We’re looking into this with @Aleksandra now to see if we have an option to support this right now. We’ll get back to you soon.

Checked with Aleksandra and we don't have an out-of-the-box option for this right now. URL parameters won't show up anywhere at this point, and the userevent table only tracks the platform's own UI, not custom widgets. An analytics tool you add yourself through Third-Party Scripts would see the full URL (including the suggested source identifier), but I understand you likely don’t want to go with that

This is useful feedback, and you're not the only one asking. We're seeing good usage of Developer Studio and we care about giving you visibility into how your widgets are used, so we'll be looking into solving this properly in the coming quarters.

Hey @jvdc!
Might be worth submitting this as an Idea, want me to go ahead and convert it for you? 😊
