When we Add any widget on the homepage, our system checks the Company GSID lookup or Company ID field available at the top level

Adding the Company ID to the report is not mandatory. However, if the Company ID is present in the object either as a direct field or as a lookup to the Company via a direct field, the filter will work correctly, allowing the user to select the Resolution field.

Below is the reason for Second or third level support not provided?

  1. Most objects in Gainsight Home connect to the Company either through a direct field or a lookup that directly references the Company.
  2. Resolving multi-level Company ID references can lead to performance issues , as resolution should only include the Company ID or fields that directly reference the Company. This is the preferred approach for both companies and relationships.
  3. To support multi-level references, opening a field tree and displaying only Company ID or Company reference fields would require specific UX changes and customisation for rendering the object field tree

Customer here: I maintain this is a bug that needs fixing not an enhancement request:

This experience is not consistent with product documentation or even the in-product behavior.

From the home configuration screen "This report does not contain Company IDs or Relationship IDs. Thus, this report cannot be filtered for Company or Relationship."

As I indicate in my support ticket, when I got this error setting up the report, that this statement is patently false. In my report, there is a Company ID field and it doesn't work.

The documentation here: https://support.gainsight.com/gainsight_nxt/Gainsight_Home/Admin_Guides/Configure_Gainsight_Home states that multiple company/relationship fields are supported, and you need to select the correct one. Here is the relevant passage:
"To add the Report widget to Gainsight Home:

Navigate to Administration > Gainsight Home > Configuration.
Click Customize Home. The Gainsight Home Builder page is displayed.
In the Widgets pane, expand the Reports section.
Drag and drop the required report widget to the layouts pane.
(Optional) If there are multiple Company and Relationship IDs associated with this report, you can select the required Company ID and/or Relationship ID.
Click the Settings icon on the widget.
Select the required Company ID and/or Relationship ID from the respective drop-downs.
Click Confirm."

The functionality here is "Allow reports with a Company ID to leverage global filters on Home". My user story is "I have a report with a Company ID on it I am not able to include in Global filters on Home."

Definitely a bug.

Indeed, I agree with the bug thing.

Even if we include all the identifiers in the dataset, like company GSID, name, etc, it returns this error message that says the opposite of what we have on screen. :-|
