Just entered to the rule to check out the logic and refreshed the preview. Never saved anything and yet the last modified date was updated…

This is very misleading as it makes impossible to discern when something was actually modified or not.
It should be like opening and reading a document anywhere (local, Google Drive)... If I didn't change anything I expect the modified date to be the same as before I opened the document.

Posting this idea for rules engine as I tested what happened with an advanced program by previewing an email template and the modified date was honored. Also followed the same steps in data designer (going to the filter tab in a dataset, previewing, refreshing the preview) and the modified date was honored too 🤷‍♀️

Literally had this experience yesterday!

Went to preview a JO program, and last modified by was updated, even though I didn’t change a thing.

If we can’t trust version history, what can we trust?

The sheer amount of confusion and mistrust this has created in my org! This is a necessity.

Adding in a strong vote from the “Gainsight Technical Resource”  contingent!  Definitely missing the old Bionic Rules popup that allowed me to at least view filtering and other details of the different data steps -- and even there, going in and previewing, or reviewing a formula field, would still update the mod date even if I didn’t save out (if I remember correctly, anyway)
