How To Merge a New Idea Into an Existing Idea

Are any comments on the Idea merged as well?

Not that I’ve seen here on inSpired. However, it is possible to have a link to the duplicate idea be automatically posted in the master idea that links back to the duplicate, just like how the duplicate links to the master. :)

It’s actually a little bit cleaner and less messy to not merge comments (it might otherwise send out unwanted notifications!), but this way of doing things does at least make them accessible on both sides for anyone interested.

are there any plans to block the voting and commenting function for the merged idea to avoid missing votes which were given when the topic was merged and “closed”? :)

Hi @Selina! I’m going to take this one as content types improvements fall under my responsibility now. 

Closing the voting option for a merged idea makes a lot of sense and I found this open idea that is requesting a very similar thing, if you’d like to weigh in: 
 

The “close topic” option is available on the topic moderation page of a merged idea, though it’s not automatic. Do you feel the need for automatically closing a merged idea for new comments?
