Hi Scott,

I’m preparing to setup Parent-Child for all Companies; I have an idea of how it will work, but I want to run it by an expert since it might be hard to clean up if I make a mistake.

---

Currently, the Team ID from our service is the unique identifier for Gainsight Companies. Going forward:

  • Child companies will represent our internal service (Team ID)
  • Parent companies will represent Salesforce Accounts (SFDC ID)

To help facilitate, I’ve already assigned a new “Customer Type” value of Child to all the existing Company records.

👉 I’m planning to create Parent companies and fill the “Parent Company” value (with Rules Engine?) -- any “gotchas” to be aware of?

Why we’re doing this:

  1. Sometimes we end up with a one-to-many scenario between Salesforce Accounts and our service. Consequently, info that’s native to Salesforce (like ARR and Closed Lost Reason) are tricky to map to Gainsight. This can be addressed in Reports, but not all Gainsight users are equally adept at how to do that.
  2. To date we’ve only brought our Sales-actioned customers into Gainsight. We’re preparing to bring in select Self-serve customers, too. These customers will have Team ID but not SFDC ID, and they’re managed differently. Although “Customer Type” would be sufficient to split these in Reports, etc. it feels like a good opportunity to level up our data structure.
