How To Configure Sidebar Widgets

Your community is unique, your sidebar widgets should be too. You can enable and disable widgets, set them in the right order and configure the settings per widget. There are two different types of sidebars in your community:

  • General sidebar: Default sidebar for all pages of your community, except homepage and topic pages.
  • Topic sidebar: This sidebar appears on topic pages and replaces the general sidebar.

How To Configure Sidebar Widgets for the Homepage

  1. Sign in to a community account with user role Community Manager or Administrator

  2. Click the purple Customize button

  3. Add ‘Container 2:1’ widget

  4. Add/edit widgets in the Sidebar

  5. Click the Publish button in the customization mode action bar to publish all changes

How To Configure Sidebar Widgets for other pages of the community

  1. Go to ControlCustomizationSidebar
  2. Drag a widget from the library on the left and drop it in the General or Topic Sidebar on the right.
  3. Change the configuration options per widget.
  4. Reorder the widgets in the order you prefer.
  5. Hit Save changes, and you’re done. The sidebars in your community will now display the community widgets.

Note:

  • Using too many widgets impacts the performance and loading time of your community. We recommend not to use more than 5 widgets per sidebar.
  • If you delete a widget from the sidebar all the configuration options are deleted as well - this can’t be undone. If you wish to deactivate a widget but keep its settings use the Inactive widgets container.
  • The related topics widget can only be used in the Topic Sidebar.

Hi @Frank does this widget send reports or capture if the customer cannot find what they are looking for? For example, would we able to see what customers are searching for most?

@ryanne.perry

We are currently not able to expose search terms in the inSided control. But using Google Analytics there is a method available.
