🎁 Now available: Upload & Attach Files To Posts
Widely requested on our ideation board, and we finally got around to doing it! Thanks for submitting the idea - these help us make decisions about new developments for our products.

So there you are, at your desk after creating/acquiring a magical file/document that will help your community members overcome certain challenges. You look at this information-saturated masterpiece and then suddenly realise it’s 24-pages long. Oh no! No one wants to read all of that in a single huge post on your community! And you certainly don't want to have to reformat it all over again...

Don’t worry! We've got your back! Proudly introducing File Uploads! Available right now in the community frontend and control! Upload files, like you have never uploaded files before: it’s seamless, secure and fast. You can also enable file uploads for some or all members of your community, if you believe that your community members would benefit from sharing files with each other.

How does it work?
Step 1: Upload file.
Step 2: ?
Step 3: Profit! (well-informed users).

Jokes aside, we hope you appreciate and use this new feature. Let us know what you think!

What exactly is available right now?

  • Attach files to individual posts and topics. Available in both the community frontend and control.
  • Self-service ability to configure whether users with the ‘Registered User’/’Super User’ primary roles are also able to upload files on the community (by default, only moderators, community managers, and admins can upload files)

Note: this feature is only available on Branded communities.

Check the FAQ for more detailed information.

Thanks for this feature!

Are you planning to also roll out the file upload to private messages? This is where we would benefit from this feature the most in our community.

Great! 🙂

We also agree with @bjoern_schulze! It would be great if this feature was possible in the private message section 🙂

We don't have any plans to roll out file uploads to private messages in the near future.

The main reasons: our current strategy focuses on providing better self-service support, rather than support for issues that can only be resolved through 1-1 interactions. It's also not a trivial feature to develop.

Whilst we appreciate that there is value in providing a smoother/richer flow for users who come to the community with a 1-1 problem, it's not on our near-term roadmap right now.

That's quite a bummer. It's customer unfriendly to say "We won't help you with this, because it's 1-1", so we provide them with an e-mail address.

@daniel.boon

Minor thing.

We have a post with a PDF file. Expected behaviour would be to click on the file, pdf opens in new tab or same tab. If you click on the file, nothing happens. You have to right-click (download) or right-click ‘open in new tab’.
