The new Product Updates module is now available!!

If you’re communicating any form of product updates to your community on a regular basis you will be happy with this - we worked on a new content type, specifically focusing on this use case:

Meet Product Updates! 🥂

Why did we build the Product Updates Module?

We built this module as a step towards our vision to have a platform composed of several modules (knowledge base, events, groups, product updates) for a more tailored experience for you and your end-users.

With product updates, you can close the product loop between you and your customers around the product and functionalities that you offer.

Product updates examples

Wondering when you should write a product update? You can use product updates in the following scenarios:

  • New product or feature releases

  • Announcing a new product or feature

  • Ideation reviews

  • Bug fixes and improvements

  • Changelog

  • Roadmap updates

This new module allows you to

:white_check_mark: Create a new topic type “Product update” in Control

:white_check_mark: View all product updates on a centralized page in Control

:white_check_mark: Have a dedicated customizable overview in Destination

:white_check_mark: Subscribe to product updates

:white_check_mark: Assign product updates to product areas (e.g. Product A, Version X, Premium only)

:white_check_mark: Collaborate with colleagues on the perfect product update with draft and preview

How to get started?

Please share any feedback you have on our ideation section on InSpired.

I’m really liking this...except for the urls. They aren’t great at all for SEO and they don’t give any sort of idea what’s in the topic. Is there any way to customize them to include some of the subject line or will you plan to do that later? They give absolutely nothing to tell you what you’re going to be clicking into. As I’m adding them to my newsletter, they’re just not that helpful and I’m sure it won’t be that great for SEO either. Any plans?

Hello @becky.scott I totally agree. We have short terms plans to replace the number in the URL by the title of the product update. I will keep you informed once done :)

@Marion Frecaut one more thing I’m noticing...in control we don’t get a notification when new comments are left. It says (not supported). I hope there are plans to add this to moderation queue like other content types. I see that the content type jumps to the top of the list when a new comment is added, but (not supported) still shows.

Hello @becky.scott thanks a lot for raising this. I shared your feedback internally about you needing that feature. I can't unfortunately give you an ETA for when this feature will be available.

Thank you, @Marion Frecaut. I think there’s a potential for spam abuse if we don’t have a way to see the new comments in control, once spammers figure it out.

Hi @Marion Frecaut, is the notification for comments already available? We wish to move a lot of articles to Product updates, but without notifications we can't use Product updates.

Hi all! Thank you, @dkuipers , for the question.

The “new comments” counter is not yet available for Product Updates or Ideas. We have plans to improve the moderation overview beginning of next year and this feature will be part of our plans. I will let you know as soon as it becomes available.
