GS Opportunity Line Item Object

clingley

Seems odd to me that you can in-line update fields in almost every Standard GS Object except the "GS Opportunity Line Item". Below are the GS Standard objects you can inline edit in

  • Case objects
  • GS opportunity
  • Company
  • Relationship
  • Person
  • Relationship person
  • Company person

There are 4 fields we need our CSMs to be able to edit on the GS Opportunity Line Item object that will sync back over to Salesforce. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this or when this standard object will adopt the same functionality as the other GS Standard objects?

Hi @clingley

The GS Opportunity Line Item object does not currently support in-line editing, unlike other Gainsight standard objects such as Case, GS Opportunity, Company, Relationship, Person, Relationship Person, and Company Person. Unfortunately, this functionality is unavailable, and there are no plans to introduce it in future roadmap updates.

Workaround Solution:

Since direct in-line editing is not supported, an alternative approach is to create a custom object in Gainsight that replicates the GS Opportunity Line Item data. The process would involve the following steps:

  1. Replicate Data – Set up a custom object in Gainsight that mirrors the structure and data of the GS Opportunity Line Item object.
  2. Enable Editing – Since custom objects allow in-line editing, CSMs can update the necessary fields directly within this new custom object.
  3. Sync Back to SFDC – Once updates are made, leverage Gainsight's Rules Engine to sync the modified data back to Salesforce (SFDC), ensuring data consistency across systems.

While this workaround requires additional setup and maintenance, it enables CSMs to efficiently edit the required fields while ensuring data is accurately pushed to SFDC.

Note: When pushing data to the SFDC Line Item Object, you may encounter permission-related issues. It is recommended to check with your Salesforce Administrator or Developer to ensure the appropriate permissions are in place for seamless data synchronization.

Adding onto what Rohit said, you’d need to create rules as a step 2.5 to push the in-line edited data back to the standard object (you won’t be able to use real-time rules though, so you’ll need to time your rule updated back to the standard object with the connector job to ensure they’re updated in the correct order since we can’t yet chain rules with jobs etc, and from the standard object to the custom object for proper mirroring) and be mindful that some updates might override each other (if a record is updated in Salesforce and in Gainsight before the connector sync) if the fields updated by your CSMs can also be updated in Salesforce.
