Hello everyone! Trying my luck again.

Description:
I have a banner with a search bar, it's the default widget from Gainsight. It's locked, and I can only edit the global styles for this section. This section implements a site-wide search.

Question:
Is there a way to reuse this search functionality? For example, can I copy the HTML and paste it elsewhere, or are there other ways to reuse it?

Thanks in advance for your answers! 🤝🏻

Hey, welcome back!

If memory serves, just about all pages except the homepage should still include the default search button at the top of the page so that’s probably the easiest way to make it work on other pages. When clicked, it will expand to the full search banner and behave exactly like the home page one does.

IIRC it won’t work if you try to dump the HTML into other pages as I think Gainsight has blocked that.

That’s right. All out-of-the-box pages should have some kind of search by default. But it’ll look a bit different everywhere

  • Landing pages (Home, Ideas, Community, KB) should have this banner widget with search  by default, but you hide/change that widget in Edit Layout/customize mode.
  • Category pages will have it by default at the top embedded in the hero image banner and category title
  • Other pages should have the small circle search icon in the mega menu (assuming you use the mega menu)

The only exception is Custom pages, but those work the same way Landing Pages work, and you just need to add the banner widget with search on those as you build them.

I’m not the best with HTML and what it would take to replicate a search experience in a HTML widget elsewhere… BUT the search is essentially just a URL parameter added to the end of community.{your domain}.com/search, so you could build something that translates a text field into that url parameter and redirects to the search for that term.
