In our platform the meta title and description are referred to as SEO Title and SEO Description

The SEO title is displayed on your browser tab and tells you what page you're on. SEO titles and descriptions are also read by search engine robots and seen by users searching the web.

You can change these settings for (parent) category pages and the homepage:

Default value
By default our platform uses the category title and description that you use for the SEO Title and Description as you can see in the screenshot below:

SEO Title and Description inherit the category title and description as a default value

If you make changes to a category title and description after the SEO Title and SEO Description have been set you will need to update the SEO Title and SEO Description manually.

How to change SEO settings for a (parent) category page

  1. Go to Control → Platform → Community or Knowledge Base
  2. Select the (parent) category which you want to edit
  3. Click SEO settings to reveal the SEO Title and SEO Description
  4. Make your changes and click Save

How to change SEO settings your homepage

  1. Go to Control → Customization → Site identity
  2. Find the SEO Title and SEO Description field and make your changes
  3. Click Save changes

Note: If you make changes to a category title and description after the SEO Title and SEO Description have been set you will need to update the SEO Title and SEO Description manually.

I’ve got a question regarding SEO setting for the homepage. There are three phrases with the names “Forum Metatags”. Do they (still) have functionality?

And I have a suggestion for a small improvement: On the “Site identity” page the Meta title and Meta description have quite small fields so it’s not possible to see the whole phrases. I suggest to make both fields wider so it’s easier to check and optimize the information.

We have plans to remove the phrases, it’s duplicated functionality now 🙂 Suggestion noted!

HI @Yoeri is there a way to edit the meta description for individual topics?

Hi Tim, you can not edit the meta description for individual topics. It will automatically use an excerpt of the topic description.

Thanks for confirming, @Yoeri

This ties in nicely to a related question I raised here:

“We’re using an analytics tool called Conductor, which displays what Google sees as headers, H2s, H3 etc. Well some of the info Google is getting from our page’s source code isn’t great.

Example here:

If we can’t change meta descriptions for topics, is there any way for Insided to improve this from a platform point of view?

Thanks for the additional info Tim. I suggest to raise this feedback as idea for improvement in our ideation section so you can directly engage with our product team on it and gather more feedback/thoughts from other inSided customers on this as well.
