Journey Program email - Log to Timeline


Hi Folks - Hoping someone can help - We set up our first JO with an email cadence and there was no choice of Log to Timeline. And to be honest in just trying to set up the Journey we didn’t even think of it. 

Now however, through a question we received from the CSM, wondering if the email would show up in the Timeline, I went to check. There was/is no where to check Log to Timeline (even tried to create new JO to confirm and it is not there). 

Does the logging to Timeline automatically happen? And if so when does it happen. We had emails go out this morning and currently nothing is showing in the Timeline. The only article I can find about logging the automated emails to the Timeline shows the old UI.

What JO system are you using? (simple program, advanced, dynamic?)

If you’re in the new dynamic JO, it’s tucked away… 

You have to click on the three dots next to preview (first screenshot), select “Sync Settings”, and then it’s the bottom checkbox (second screenshot).

Note -- there’s a significant lag between when the email is sent and when it becomes visible on the timeline.

Hey! Depending on which program type you’re using, the Log to Timeline option is in different spots & isn’t automatically enabled:

  • On the older Advanced Program builder, you’ll see the Log to Timeline option when you’re setting up each individual email component, to the right of where you select the template.
  • On the new Dynamic Program builder, the Log to Timeline option is found under the Sync Settings. In the Email/Survey step, click the three dots to the right of Preview in the upper right corner to select it.
  • On Simple Programs, Log to Timeline is found under the Sync Settings menu (top right) when you’re setting up the email action.

I believe it can take up to 4 hours for the email logs to appear on Timeline even with the setting checked.

What @mobrien14 said -- I’ve had it take between 8-24 hours sometimes…

It’s much more visible in the advanced JO (not sure why they tucked it away in the new dynamic JO 🤔).

 Definitely make sure to re-publish (always a scary experience) so it logs moving forward! 😀
